Maricopa County Reads is an online summer reading program for all ages! This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories.” The program runs from June 1st to August 1st, 2019 and aims to help maintain and improve literacy skills for participants of all ages.
Please, only one account per person.
You can sign up at http://read20az.com or at your local library starting May 1!
There’s something for everyone in our summer reading program—you can earn points, unlock badges, and win prizes. Get one point for every minute you add to your reading log.
Participants can earn a day use pass for the Arizona State Parks & Trails (while supplies last). Check with your library to find out how to earn one! Passes are good for one adult and one child or one vehicle at state parks. Passes do not cover cave tours, camping, or other fee-based programs. For more information, visit Arizona State Parks & Trails.
Kids up to age 11 can earn a free personal pan pizza from Peter Piper Pizza (while supplies last) and participants 12 and older will earn a free chips and guacamole from Rubio’s when they reach 500 points. At 1,000 points, participants earn a free book of their choosing!
Challenge yourself to log 20 minutes of reading every day for a chance to win awesome weekly drawing prizes!
Badges are in-game marks of achievement—there are hundreds of badges just waiting to be unlocked! You can earn badges by entering minutes into your reading log or completing reading and activity challenges, and by entering secret codes given out at library events and community experiences.
A community experience is a special event created by community partners that takes place outside of the library. These events include hands-on workshops, classes, festivals, tasks, scavenger hunts, and much more. Community experiences give Summer Reading participants and their families a way to connect with local groups. These special events provide kids with the experiential knowledge that is a key component of literacy.
To browse for community experiences, from your account dashboard go to “Events” and select the “Community Experiences” link. You can search by program type or location or use a keyword. The description of the community experience will pop-up. You can also find a list of local community experiences at your library.
When you visit one of our community partners for an experience, you will receive a secret code. Type the secret code into your account to receive bonus points and a special badge!
From your account, select “Click Here to Customize Your Avatar.” Customize your avatar by selecting hair, facial features, clothing, etc. When you are happy with your changes click “Save Avatar” and “Return to Dashboard.”
Be on the lookout for new avatar accessories throughout the summer reading program. Beginning May 1, special accessories can be unlocked by entering secret codes (like the one found at the bottom of this FAQ).
